For most sports, Isle of Wight Academy competes in the highly competitive Metro Athletic Conference. In addition to IWA, member schools include Broadwater Academy, Atlantic Shores Christian School, Portsmouth Christian School, StoneBridge School, Alliance Christian School, Denbigh Baptist Christian School, Williamsburg Christian Academy, and Hampton Christian High School.
For football and spring soccer, IWA competes in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference (VCC). VCC member schools in addition to IWA include Amelia Academy, Christchurch School, Brunswick Academy, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot School, Fuqua School, Kenston Forest School, Richmond Christian School, Southampton Academy, Steward School, and Tidewater Academy.
Isle of Wight Academy offers a full athletic program. The IWA Chargers can routinely be found at the forefront of any athletic competition with many students going on to further competition on the collegiate level.

Charger Athletics is enthusiastically supported by the Isle of Wight Academy Athletic Association. By holding successful fundraisers, such as the fruit sale and annual barbeque and silent auction, the Athletic Association is able to raise the funds necessary to support IWA's successful athletic programs. Meetings are held every first Monday of the month in the school library. Anyone is encouraged to attend these meetings and get involved in IWA athletics.
