Isle of Wight Academy's Middle School consists of grades 6 and 7 and is dedicated to preparing students for the rigorous college preparatory curriculum offered in the Upper School. Based on the six period model followed in the Upper School, Middle School serves as a transition from Lower to Upper School. Beginning in sixth grade, classes are departmentalized and students change classes just as the Upper School students do. The Middle School schedule allows for breaks and a lunch period during the day that allow students to relax.
Students are required to take six subjects during the school day. These subjects consist of the core grammar, literature, social studies and science classes that provide students with a solid foundation for future learning. Small clas size and individualized attention assure that each student receives a great deal of attention. In addition to the core classes, students take part in an activity period every day. During this period, students may take physical education, Spanish, French, world studies, study skills, band, or art on a rotating basis. A wide range of assemblies also provide the students with cultural enrichment opportunities.
